JAD Your customer is the owner and final decision-maker. They want to, and should be, an integral part of the process. Follow up with them regularly and formally.

4 Get it in Writing Protects both you and the customer from misunderstandings. Gives focus and direction to the project. Allows you to foresee needs and budget. Avoids Scope Creep. Clarifies “deliverables”. Highlights customer’s responsibilities. Gets you paid!

5 Be Clear Who is the site owner? Who do you really have to answer to?
Who has do do what by when? Have customer review and sign off (and pay) at important milestones. Often beginning, middle, and end. Summarize and write decisions. Send copies to all concerned parties.

6 Avoiding Scope Creep Wouldn’t it be neat if…
Oh! We forgot about the super-duper-whiz-bang feature! Establish Phases. You can do more later. You can add more. Both developer and client can choose to work together or not in future. But stick to goals of agreement. Sign them up for maintenance!
