Thesis Statement or Claim
A thesis statement is a sentence in which you state an argument about a topic and then describe, briefly, how you will prove your argument.

Contextualization Describes a broader historical context relevant to the prompt (background info).

Evidence Provides specific examples of evidence relevant to the topic of the prompt. Or Supports an argument in response to the prompt using specific and relevant examples of evidence.

Analysis & Reasoning Demonstrates a complex understanding of the historical development that is the focus of the prompt, using evidence to corroborate, qualify, or modify an argument that addresses the question

DO NOT!! Use too many pronouns. BE SPECIFIC!
Use absolutes “everyone”, “nobody”, etc. Use these phrases: “back in the day”, “in the olden days”, “back then” Talk about today Use “I”, “In my opinion”, “I think”, I believe” Use the word “being” “She was being chased.” “She was chased.”
