1.       The first thing I notice about the cartoon is that the U.S. is represented by large men and the Canadian is small in comparison. 2.       The title/caption is “Canada Participates In The U.S Missile Defense System”. 3.       The dialogue in the cartoon is the Canadian is offering coffee to the Americans. 4.       – There are 2 Americans            - There are 2 missiles            - There is one Canadian  5.       The U.S. are working at a missile launcher and the Canadian is offering them coffee. 6.       The most significant words in this cartoon are the ones in the caption. It outlines what is going on and the cartoon is understood without the other words and phrases. 7.       The emotions portrayed are            - annoyance            - uselessness 8+9.       The size of the people is symbolizing the strength and power of the US an how Canada didn’t have a lot to offer and was almost like a little brother who wasn’t allowed to participate. The coffee symbolizes unneeded Canada was and they only made small contributions. 10.       Cartoon by Adrian Raeside 11.       This cartoon is from the 2000's or 2010's 12.       This cartoon was created recently in the 21st century. In this time the illustrator was probably reflecting back and making a joke of history. 13.       The message of this cartoon is that the US were the big players in the game and Canada didn't contribute much but tried to contribute. 14.       I learned from this cartoon that people didn’t and still don't really see Canada as a strong player in missile defense but more of a country that relied on the US. 15.       The other documents I would use would be websites and newspapers to understand what happened and ow people felt about the situation.

5 1.       The first thing I notice about this cartoon is someone having to choose between 2 things.
2.       The title is “Avro Arrow or Bomarc Missile”. 3.       The "dialogue" in this cartoon is a Canadian tax payer gulping. 4.       In this cartoon there is            - The Avro Arrow            - A Canadian tax payer            - A Bomarc Missile            - Money             - A US flag arm with a Bomarc Missile            - A Communist arm with a missile 5.      The Canadian tax payer is trying to decide between their 2 missile defense options.  6.       The title is the most significant because it explains what is going on and its easy to understand what the cartoon is about even without the other words in the cartoon. 7.       - confusion            - worried 8+9.     The objects that the tax payer is holding are symbols that represent their options. On one hand he has a deck of cards which represents that he's taking a gamble on something and in the other hand he knows what he's getting and its simple. 10.       This cartoon was drawn by John Collins 11.       This cartoon is from 1950's –1960's 12.   At this time in history the avro Arrow program was being funded and worked on and it was also shut down in this time, by the introduction od US defense missiles. 13.   The message of this cartoon is showing that Canadians had a hard time choosing between staying loyal to a Canadian anti-missile program or accepting the American Bomarc Missile which looked like it would be a better idea. 14.   From this carton I found out that that Canadians had different opinions on the Avro arrow program. 15.     The other documents I would use would be websites and newspapers to understand what happened and how people felt about the situation.

6 When I first found this documentary, I thought I would learn about why the Avro Arrow was made, and why it was destroyed. This video is mostly black and white using original photos and videos of the Arrow. It is a documentary using narration. The documentary consists of: People Places Activities Crawford Gordon Diefenbaker A few workers The factory in which it was made The airport where it was held and tested Homes (for  interviews) The building of the plane The first flight The opinions from the workers about the destroying of the planes The destroying of the planes

7 Many previous workers had thought that the main reason that Diefenbaker had cancelled the program was due to money. Other thoughts were how Diefenbaker and Gordon did not get along, but the answer is not known. This video is from 2015, from the CBC Television Broadcast. It was most likely intended to be watched by adults or some kids who are interested in Canadian history, especially the Avro Arrow. It was narrated by Cy Strange and produced by George Robertson. The creator probably intended to help the viewer learn more about the Arrow. I this video, they used footage that was not supposed to be ever taken. This may be the only video where you can see the planes being destroyed.

8 Other facts from the video:
Five planes were created that could fly After not being able to sell them, Britain asked for an arrow a few years later after they were destroyed February 20th, 1959, became known as 'Black Friday', the day  people lost their jobs
