1 Interphase Mrs. Harper Biology 11/13/17

2 November 13, 2017 Happy Monday! Download notes Begin working on Do Now
Interims go out today!

3 DO NOW 10/19/15 1. Where do all cells come from?
2. What is the period of cell division called? 3. What is the period of cell growth called?

4 Cell Cycle Part 1: Interphase

5 The Cell Cycle The cell cycle is the sequence of growth and division of a cell. It has two major parts Period of Growth- Interphase Period of Division- Mitosis

6 INTERPHASE Consists of three phases: Growth Phase 1 (G1)
Synthesis Phase (S) Growth Phase 2 (G2)

7 Growth Phase 1 (G1) Major period of growth (cell enlarges)
New organelles are made Lots of protein synthesis

8 Growth Phase 0 (G0) Cells exit the cycle during G1
Cells do NOT replicate CELLS STOP DIVIDING

9 Synthesis Phase (S) DNA synthesis or replication occurs
Chromosomes are copied

10 Growth Phase 2 (G2) Shortest phase of interphase
Period of rapid growth Prepares for cell division (creates centrioles)

11 Video “How the Cell Cycle Works” HD Animation
Answer the review questions as you watch the video

12 Stored Genetic Material
DNA = Genetic code of cell Chromatin = long strand of uncoiled DNA Chromosome = Tightly coiled (packed) strand of chromatin Chromosome

13 Chromosome Structure Sister chromatids: arm-like structures
Centromere: center point of chromosome

14 Assignment Work silently and independently on the interphase packet on Code Red Read the short paragraphs found in the packet and your notes to answer the questions Unfinished classwork is homework
