Why It’s Needed Sharpen the collective land and water vision
Improve agency/group coordination and communication Correct under-management and update practices To protect current and future residents Keep costs as low as possible – it’s financially responsible To fulfill the County’s vision, goals and responsibilities
5
County Board Direction
Focus Areas Protection of high quality areas; 2) Restoration and enhancement of native plant communities; 3) Protection of groundwater and surface water; 4) Land use management around lakes, streams and the river; 5) Creation, enhancement, and management of wildlife habitat; 6) Development of Best Management Practices (BMPs) for working lands including agroforestry, perennial crops, continuous living cover, and conservation grazing; and 7) Long-term management of County and Washington Conservation District project areas. The County Board has directed us to carry out this work through its Comprehensive Planning process and we went to them last April with a plan for how we would pull all of you together and highlight the issues we would try to resolve. The final plan will align with County Comprehensive Plan goals, policies and strategies and serve as an implementation plan for which state grant funding can be sought. These implementation priorities will be the basis for developing future Washington Conservation District and County operational and capital improvement program budgets. It is anticipated this plan will need to be updated every five years. (Text from April presentation) SHIFT TO JAY...But this work is also bigger than the County and its Comp Plan. We are weaving together 1W1P, WCD, Watersheds...setting state for increased funding opps.

Attributes and Importance of Natural Resources
Natural resources and natural communities exist as complex, interrelated, dynamic systems.
8
Attributes and Importance of Natural Resources
Ecosystem services provided by interactions between organisms and their environment are fundamental to life on earth. Biodiversity is an important measure of site quality, community resilience and biotic potential. WWF Living Planet Report 2016
9
Attributes and Importance of Natural Resources
Natural resources are essential for maintaining healthy communities.
10
Protection and Stewardship of Natural Resources
Protection of larger, contiguous and connected habitat areas provide more ecological success than many smaller or linear areas.
11
Protection and Stewardship of Natural Resources
Strategic natural resource protection and careful, science- based stewardship are necessary for ecosystem health.
12
Protection and Stewardship of Natural Resources
Protection of natural resources is a shared responsibility – government, industry, business, communities and individuals.
13
Protection and Stewardship of Natural Resources
Integrating working lands thoughtfully into stewardship activities improves the ecosystem health and services they provide to the community.
14
Protection and Stewardship of Natural Resources
Protection and enhancement of natural resources must be integral part of all public or private development or improvement projects. /

Instructions 1) Break into stations
2) Review “Strategy” and its related “Implementation Steps” on poster 3) Record responses to the following: What do you like? What do you dislike? What’s missing? 4) Share written feedback with your group and place Post It Notes on Flip Chart 5) Discuss and summarize the three most important points on large sheet 6) Groups rotate and repeat exercise 7) Review all the new Post It Note feedback that has been left at your original station 8) Discuss, summarize on Flip Chart and prepare to report outcomes to the larger group
21
Prioritization Exercise and Break
1) Each person selects top 3 implementation steps for each strategy with dots 2) Review added feedback at other stations if interested

Mapping Update Next Steps:
Allow TAC to review and comment on layers and map outlines Poll interested TAC members for layer weights Assign weight to each layer in each map outline Create a “heat map” for each map outline by the sum of weights Overlay easement and government owned parcels to highlight low hanging fruit Create operating document for final shapefile to allow for distribution to partners
