RESEARCH-BASED PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Certification prep Real life context Help demystifying complex subject matter Hands-on labs Bloom’s Taxonomy These four areas are key instructional items when developing our MindTaps for Advanced Computing The instructional design flow is based on research, instructor, student, administration, instructional designers and potential employer feedback We position content for real life success with hands on labs including trouble shooting and problem solving, which are designed to students over hurdles of difficult concepts. We include Con academy type videos. Bloom’s Taxonomy validates the need for higher level, but that students do need help getting from A-Z. These Con Academy-type videos get students over the hump. We introduce harder concepts in an easy to understand way and then build from there. We build all MindTap according to Quality Matters standards. Your instructional designers will love this because they will not have to go through the course, dissect it, fix it, ask more or less from you, then can just see the QM certification and approve it for use in your course.

LIVE VIRTUAL MACHINE LABS – Spring 2018
Improved Grading Functionality for Live Virtual Machine Labs Security+ 6e: NOW A+ 9e: Coming this Spring Semester Network+ 8e: April 2018 New Functionality: Screenshot tool Multiple Choice Questions at the end of the lab Grade report that feeds into gradebook for instructor review Our product team is working on new functionality to enhance the Live Virtual Machine Labs grading experience We are providing better grading functionality for these labs to prove and increase student engagement throughout each lab. A+ will be releasing first – expected by the end of September and Security +, 6th ed following by the end of December 2017. New multiple choice questions will exist throughout each lab, so while the student is completing each lab step, they will answer a question to prove that they completed each lab step. These questions will be auto-graded, and will automatically feed into the gradebook. The second new functionality are student screen shots. When the student completes the lab, the will be presented with a screenshot button, which will prompt them to take a screenshot of their completed lab, right within the lab. The screenshot will have a watermark with a time/date stamp to eliminated any potential for cheating. The screenshot will add additional proof that the student completed the lab fully, and will automatically feed to the gradebook with a "pending" grade, until the instructor manually grades it, however, it is not factored into the total grade. For example, if a student received an overall score of 85% on the multiple choices quizzes throughout the lab, then an 85% will feed to the gradebook. Each screenshot that the student captures will also be available for instructor viewing within the gradebook, but will not require manual grading. As with all MindTap grades, instructors can adjust any LVML lab score as needed.

BEST PRACTICES | TIPS + TRICKS
Before Class Begins Use resources on the Cengage Training Website Make MindTap at least 60% of the grade Strongly consider completing the assignments at least once yourself Use Live Virtual Machine Lab Training Videos for additional Instructor help Review Live Virtual Machine Lab User Guide and FAQ document When the Class Begins Make sure students complete ‘Systems Check’ before they register Get students registered on the first day of class using this video Show them the ’Getting Started with MindTap’ video first day of class Think of requiring the ‘Welcome to Your Course’ and ’Getting Started with MindTap’ videos for a portion of the grade if you have an LMS
