2nd Grade News Ms. Mauer Homework Week of November 26, 2018
A Peek at What We Are Learning This Week Reading & Writing- “Alexander Who Used to Be Rich Last Sunday” is our anchor text. “A Chair for My Mother” is our supporting text. Some of the skills the students will touch on include character analysis, story sequence and structure. Help your child make inferences about character’s thoughts and feelings using picture clues in stories as well as reactions to events and other characters. Our writing focus will be on a narrative from a different character’s point of view. Language, Phonics & Spelling- The students will work with r controlled vowels a and o. (ar, or, oar, and ore words) Our language skills will work on expanding sentences using adjectives and adverbs as well as identifying subjects and verbs in sentences. Math- The students will begin working with sums and differences within The students will build upon their understanding of the base ten system and their prior knowledge of place value strategies. They will learn some new strategies to record their mental math and to show change in numbers as they work with them. Science- We will begin our unit on Louisiana bodies of water as well as the relationship and effects animals and their habitats have on each other.
