WHY HAVE AN AGE FRIENDLY PROGRAMME?
Life expectancy is rising faster in Ireland than anywhere in the European Union.
By 2041, 25% of the population will be over 65 (12% now).
The population over 80 will have increased by 400% in 2041.
1 in 3 Newborns will live to 100 years old.

Ageing is not only one of humanity’s greatest triumphs; It is also one of our greatest challenges.

GLOBAL EFFORT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
In 2007 the World Health Organisation established a Global Framework for Age Friendly Cities & Communities.
In 2013 the Dept. Health developed the National Positive Ageing Strategy.
Development of Age Friendly Communities incorporated into Clare Rural Development Strategy in 2017.

WHO RECOMMENDS A ‘DELIVERY FRAMEWORK’ INVOLVING MULTI-AGENCY APPROACH
FOR IRELAND TO BECOME TRULY AGE-FRIENDLY ALL SECTORS OF SOCIETY, GOVERNMENT, SERVICE PROVIDERS, LOCAL AUTHORITIES, POLICE AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC MUST BE INVOLVED.
WE ALL HAVE OUR PART TO PLAY.
