A farm wife using her washing machine. The REA was instrumental in transforming the lives of farm families; bringing electricity to the countryside brought many of the labor saving devices of the cities. Homes formerly lighted by oil lamps now were bright with electric lights; farm women enjoyed the advantages of refrigeration, or of household electrical appliances; and the advent of milking machines, barn coolers, corn shellers, and other equipment made farming less back-breaking. Radios powered by electricity brought rural Americans into the common national culture.

9. WARM-UP
Clothing manufactures have decided that they are changing the meaning of small, medium. Large etc. They are changing the meaning to improve the self-image and self-esteem of the person that is buying their product. Do you agree or disagree with this change in clothing? Why?
Obj: SWBAT demonstrate the use of sewing equipment.

10. 8 Basic Steps Sort, read labels
Check pockets, hook fasteners, treat stains
Wash: Check water temperature
Use right kind and amount of detergent,
Choose cycle– Heavy, regular, delicate, etc…start!
Dry: Clean lint filter
Load dryer evenly
Remove and store properly—iron, fold, hang

11. Laundry Procedures
We will be making a mini-book to help us remember the steps for taking care of our clothing.

12. Step 1
Make 3 hamburger folds— You should have 8 even sections.

13. Step 2 Unfold to first hamburger fold and cut on the folded side
Stop here

14. Step 3
Unfold to full size and fold hot dog style

15. Step 4: Final step!
Push the ends together to form an X-shape and fold over to produce a book with six inside pages.
