Louis XIV - France Nobles lived with Louis and were totally dependent on him and they were far from home so the intendants had more power Versailles was a center for the arts, he made everyone like opera and ballet, the purpose of the arts was to glorify the king and show his wealth and power Positives and Negatives of Louis XIV’s reign France became the new cultural center of Europe France was the leader in military The war and building Versailles left France with lots of debt (no money) The poor were mad about the taxes and took it out on Louis heirs
