What is stress? Stress can be caused by major events
Stress is your body’s response to changes around you. It can negatively affect individual and family health. It can also be positive Negative Stress or Distress is stress that prevents you from doing what you need to do or that causes you discomfort. Positive Stress or Eustress is stress that can help you accomplish goals. Stressors are triggers of stress, whether it be positive or negative.

Stress Response Your body does not always know the difference between distress or eustress. Your body responds to stressors by getting ready to act. This is called “fight-or-flight”- because your body either prepares to fight the stressor or prepare to flee from it. Another part of this reaction is your body releasing adrenaline is a hormone that increases the level of sugar in your blood, thereby giving your body extra energy. Examples of physical responses to stressors: More blood is directed to your muscles and brain Your heart beats faster Your muscles tighten up and are ready for action Your senses sharpen. You become more alert Your air passages widen so that you can take in more air.

Stress and fatigue After the stressor is gone, your body’s response to it usually stops. However if you are experiencing extreme or long lasting stress the response may continue. After a time your body may become Fatigue or extreme tiredness There are two types of fatigue that exist: Physical Fatigue: is extreme tiredness of the whole body. Psycological fatigue: or extreme tiredness caused by your mental state. This can be caused by stress, worry, boredom, or depression To relieve this stress you may try to exercise, or working on a hobby.

Ways to manage stress Stress can affect you mental/emotional, social health, which is why it is important to develop Coping skills: ways of dealing with and overcoming problems. Coping Strategies: Eat nutritious food Get enough sleep Relax Maintain positive attitude Be physically active Manage your time Talk
