I am responsible for the operational readiness and command and control of the District of Columbia Army and Air National Guard units with an authorized strength of 2,700 men Soldiers and Airmen. I assumed duties as commanding general in 2008. My military career started when I enlisted in the U. S. Army National Guard in 1976. I was commissioned and appointed in June 1979 as a platoon leader in the 104th Maintenance Company. I have served in many leadership positions as a staff officer and commander. Some of my positions include service as a Battalion Commander, 372nd Military Police Battalion, Deputy Director of Information Management, Director of Logistics, Commander, 74th Troop Command and Deputy Commanding General, District of Columbia National Guard I attended the University of District of Columbia, Bachelor of Science, Engineering; Central Michigan University, Master of Science, Business Management; National Defense University – Master of Science; National Defense University – CAPSTONE As a commanding general, my position is the only one of its kind where I am the only National Guard leader in the country to be appointed by the White House where I serve at the pleasure of the President. My service to the White House ended at the moment the inauguration began for our newly-elected President. I was stunned at the announcement that I had to step down (was being dismissed, fired) on the Inauguration Day for President- elect Trump at 12:00 noon. I was told that it was ordered by the Pentagon. I know that the next commander will be just as loyal to the Commander in Chief as I was.
