5 Great Awakening (1730S-1740s) Jonathan Edwards:
How Were People Supposed to Escape Sin? What are some of the metaphors or images Edward’s using? How, do you think, these images in Edward’s speech would promote conversion or a renewal of faith in the colonists (his audience)?

6 Edward’s speech awakened in people a desire to be religious again to be truly converted to God’s word. This need applied to old and young, rich and poor, black and white. The ministers taught that ALL needed the grace or forgiveness of God. The Great Awakening spiritually brought everyone onto the same level. Watch the Following Clip: The First Great Awakening
