5. Why Play Basketball? To have a positive experience when participating.
What does that mean and entail?
Some ways to make basketball a positive experience:
Playing the sport to be apart of a team, develop social skills and achieve something together.
To set goals and become dedicated with something you are interested in.
To be involved in the school and stay physically active.
Players should not play because
They expect playing time without earning it through hard work and skill level..
Only care about averaging the most points.
Focus only on their stats and not the team.
Expect wins only.
How can this be achieved?
Parents and coaches talking about why these are important qualities in high school athletics.

6. Program Philosophy. Freshmen- Development is the focus.
Playing time is not guaranteed,but development is the primary focus at this level. Coaches will try to give athletes a chance to play, but if the team size is too large some players might not always get in the game.
Sophomore- Development and preparation for JV.
Playing time is not guaranteed as the coach is preparing players to possibility play JV the next year.
Playing time is centered around skill and development.
JV- Preparation for varsity and continued development.
Playing time is based on skill level and contribution to the team.

7. Program Philosophy cont.
Varsity- To be as successful as possible.
Playing time is based off skill level and contribution to the team.
Playing time is not based off seniority or age at any of the upper levels, so freshmen and sophomores have the opportunity to play JV or varsity if skilled enough.
Example: A senior is not guaranteed playing time because they are a senior if there are other players (same age or younger) who are ahead of the player from a talent aspect.
We do take into account intangibles such as commitment, respect, and academics.

8. EXPECTATIONS FOR THE COACHES
Create an inviting environment for the players to improve and grow as basketball players and student athletes.
Be mentors and role models for the players.
Create a positive culture for success around the development of the team.
Communicate with players and parents.
Strive for improvement by expecting to be the best.

9. EXPECTATIONS FOR THE PLAYERS
Playing high school basketball is a privilege and opportunity.
Playing time is not guaranteed, but earned through the development of skills as compared to other players on the team.
Plus commitment, respect, and desire to improve throughout the season and off season.
Communication in all aspects. Sickness, school related activities, playing time, or other issues that conflict with the team.
Communicate outside the season as well such as improvements, involvelements, etc.
Attendance at all practices and games is mandatory.
Maintaining a minimum “C” average in all classes.
Put the ‘Team’ before the individual.

10. EXPECTATIONS FOR THE PARENTS
Support your son, the team, the coaches, and the program as a whole.
Be a fan of the boys and enjoy the experience of watching them play.
Use the Communication chart when communicating about any kind of situation.

11. COMMUNICATION CHART Step 1: Player to Specific Coach
We believe this is the most important step as we want all communication to be done between the players and the coach to help teach the boys about communication.
Step 2: Player to Specific Coach and Varsity Coach
Step 3 Parent/Player to Varsity Coach
Before a parent can talk with the Varsity coach about any issue such as playing time, the player will have to speak with his coach first before a parent is involved.

Either the Varsity coach or specific coach will communicate back with the parent and player.
Step 6 Parent/Player to Coach/ A..D.

Meeting with parents are only intended for well-being of the player. They are not meant to discuss playing time or coaches judgements on coaching the team.
However, players are encouraged to speak with their coach on how to improve their playing time.

13. Acceptable Behaviors for Parents
Supporting the players and coaches during the game.
Supporting the coaches for taking time to coach your son’s team.
Calling a coach only about the concerns regarding the health of your son.

14. Unacceptable Behaviors for Parents
Confronting a coach about playing time after a game.
Calling a coach at any time to discuss playing time or their role on the team.
Yelling at a coach or player your personal thoughts of what you think they should be doing during a game.
Questioning the coach's decision to other parents during/after a game.
Using Social media to express your disagreements or frustrations about the team, players, or coaches.
Not following the communication chart.

15. FEES and Fundraising District Fee: $50
This fee covers the expenses of the sport.
White Fee $50- a program fee for practice gear
Includes a practice jersey, practice shorts, and a sentinel basketball t-shirt.
The basketball program also purchased the following for each player to use during the season, but must be returned at the end of season due to MSHA rules:
Team polos that will be used on most of the away trips instead of a shirt and tie.
Team Travel Bag for all gear to be transported on game days.

16. Fundraising Fundraisers are an important part of the program.
We raise money for the following:
Shooting Machines which are used during practice.
Ipads that are used for statistical analysis and filming of the games
HUDL subscription which includes statistical breakdown of each game and opponent.
Additional coaching stipends.
Player and coach polos
Team bags for each of the players
Food money for overnight trips to pay for some meals during Divisionals and State.
Fastdraw account which helps us create all of our offense and defenses.
Any players that cannot afford practice gear.

17. Fundraising Continued
This year we are conducting a couple fundraisers for program.
The first one will be a WeFund4u which we are hoping to get up and running by next week.
This is the main fundraiser for our program. Every player will be required to collect 20 addresses as a way to raise money for the fundraiser.
It is an easy fundraiser as the company will each of the contact the players and there is no door to door selling required by the players.
The second fundraiser will be a a Five Guys night out on Thursday November 29th from 5-7pm. All the teams will be going to do eat at the fundraiser after their individual practices.
Parents, please come join us and eat and tell anyone else you might think of that would like to join us.

19. Quick Summary of other Information
JV/Var Practices 3:15-5:15 and Soph/Fr 5: We do practice Saturdays and holiday breaks.
Please check the to see when grade checks are throughout the season.
Games: Shirt and tie or player polo with nice pants. Attend the game before your game, and sit as a team.
Ride the bus home as much as possible. Administrator approval is necessary to be signed out.
Plan on one meal on a road either prior to the game and will stop by a grocery store on the way out of town.
Respectful and proper behavior on the bus.
Stay involved outside the season by playing in June and lifting and skill training with the team throughout the offseason.
End of the Season banquet is scheduled for April 4th. Check to see what your grade level is bringing.
