What is Hematology??? Hematology is the study of blood and blood conditions The conditions my include: Red blood cells white blood cells bone marrow Blood vessels Lymph nodes Spleen Proteins involved in blood clotting

Jobs in this field Phlebotomists – draw the blood from patients, organizes and labels it appropriately, and works with a medical lab. Medical Laboratory Technician – Medical laboratory technician is someone that analyzes bodily fluid including blood. They provide assistance to physicians and can treat illnesses. Nurses – One of the huge differences between Nurses and phlebotomists is that a Nurse has a much wider range of responsibilities, drawing blood is one of them.

Education Hematologist - There are extensive educational requirement for hematologists. They must complete medical school and gain a license. They must receive an advanced degree in hematology. Hematologists may go on a specialization beyond hematology. The Educational requirements could be lengthy but sometimes taking up to ten years. Phlebotomists – This is considered one of the fastest growing fields in the medical field due to how quick the schoolings goes. About a year or less is required. Medical Tech – A hands on program is required, you must complete some certification, or receive an associate’s degree. Typically about two years to complete. Nurses – To draw blood one must be a RN or a LPN under the supervision of an RN. About 2 years, or a bachelors degree in nursing which is 4 years.
