Aim : Raise awareness of the KfH High Profile Health Libraries Advocacy Toolkit Outline: Brief introduction including tools in action Discussion of advocacy tools and effectiveness Action planning to develop our own advocacy messages Hopefully by the end of the session you will: understand how components of the toolkit can help with advocacy for your own LKS reflect upon when advocacy has been used and consider adding examples to the toolkit identify some key actions to raise the impact of your own service More crucial with publication of the Carter Report likely to bring services under even more scrutiny as Trusts seek to make cost efficiencies

The toolkit available from an open wiki and the KfH blog presents as range of resources, tips and examples of how these can be used to ‘make the case’ for health libraries. Further contributions of tools and case studies are welcome and should be sent to Sarah Greening

DISCUSSION: In pairs use the hand-out template to: Either record the challenge you identified in your preparation template for today's meeting, or another issue, and consider how you would use aspects from the toolkit to advocate for your service Or think about a time when you have used advocacy successfully and summarise Where has advocacy worked successfully for you and why? Where could you use advocacy to raise the profile of your service? Have you used advocacy and not had the outcome you wanted – what could you do differently?
