4. Receive
“But even now," says the Lord, “repent sincerely and return to me with fasting and weeping and mourning. Let your broken heart show your sorrow; tearing your clothes is not enough." Come back to the Lord your God. He is kind and full of mercy; he is patient and keeps his promise; he is always ready to forgive and not punish.

5. Engage
The word shrove is a form of the English word shrive, which means to ask forgiveness for one's sins. So Shrove Tuesday gets its name from the custom for Christians to be "shriven" before the start of Lent.
Also, because it is the last day before the season of Lent, people would eat rich or special food (such as pancakes) that they may be giving up as part of their Lent fast (many places have Pancake Races as part of their celebration).

Can you be fully forgiven for a wrong that you have done? How?
If you had a feast what food would you have?
What does forgiveness mean?
Activity suggestion … Stop and think for a minute, consider anything for which you need forgiveness. Think what you need to do to resolve that problem.

7. Respond Amen God of the wilderness as we prepare to keep Lent
may we follow in the path of Jesus
by examining our character,
attitude and behaviour
and by working on improving
those areas of ourselves
which need change.
