8
Let’s take a look at what the Word of God says in Leviticus 23:33-44.
9
Leviticus 23:33-34 Again the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘On the fifteenth of this seventh month is the Feast of Booths for seven days to the Lord.
10
Leviticus 23:35-36a On the first day is a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work of any kind. For seven days you shall present an offering by fire to the Lord.
11
Leviticus 23:36b On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation and present an offering by fire to the Lord; it is an assembly. You shall do no laborious work.
12
Leviticus 23:37 These are the appointed times of the Lord which you shall proclaim as holy convoca - tions, to present offerings by fire to the Lord – burnt offerings and grain offerings,
13
Leviticus 23:37-38a sacrifices and libations, each day’s matter on its own day – besides those of the sabbaths of the Lord, and besides your gifts, and besides all your votive and freewill offerings,
14
Leviticus 23:38b-39a which you give to the Lord. On exactly the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the crops of the land, you shall celebrate the feast of the
15
Leviticus 23:39b-40a Lord for seven days, with a rest on the first day and a rest on the eighth day. Now on the first day you shall take for yourselves the foliage of beautiful trees, palm
16
Leviticus 23:40b-41a branches and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before the Lord your God for seven days. You shall thus celebrate it as a feast to the
17
Leviticus 23:41b Lord for seven days in the year. It shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations; you shall celebrate it in the seventh month.
18
Leviticus 23:42-43a You shall live in booths for seven days; all the native born in Israel shall live in booths, so that your generations may know that I had the sons of Israel live in
19
Leviticus 23:43b-44 booths when I brought them out from the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.’” So Moses declared to the sons of Israel the appointed times of the Lord.
21
Let’s connect the dots with the similarities of the Wedding Feast.
22
Describe the Temple during the Feast of Tabernacles in the time of Jesus Christ.
23
Explain the water pouring ceremony that would take place in preparation for the feast.
30
The Spring of Gihon
34
Hezekiah’s Tunnel
40
Don’t forget the significance of the water.
41
Jesus went to the Feast!
42
John 7:37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If any man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.
43
John 7:38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.’”
44
John 7:39 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
47
Isaiah 44:3 I will pour out water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out My Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants;
50
Isaiah 12:3 Therefore you will joyously draw water from the springs of salvation.
52
Do you think the Pharisees, Sadducees and other religious leaders may have been in a little bit of shock?
53
John 7:40 Some of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, were saying, “This certainly is the Prophet.”
54
John 7:41 Others were saying, “This is the Christ.” Still others were saying, “Surely the Christ is not going to come from Galilee, is He?
55
John 7:42 Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the offspring of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”
56
John 7:43-44 So there arose a division in the multitude because of Him. And some of them wanted to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him.
57
John 7:45 The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”
58
John 7:46-47 The officers answered, “Never did a man speak the way this man speaks.” The Pharisees therefore answered them, “You have not also been led astray, have you?
59
John 7:48-49 No one of the rulers or Pharisees has believed in Him, has he? But this multitude which does not know the Law is accursed.”
60
John 7:50-51 Nicodemus said to them (he who came to Him before, being one of them), “Our Law does not judge a man, unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?”
61
John 7:52-53 They answered and said to him, “You are not also from Galilee, are you? Search and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee.” And everyone went to his home.
62
They were having a hard time dealing with the boldness of Christ.
63
His statements and visual illustrations were shocking and life changing.
64
Let’s not forget the three Seventy-five feet tall menorahs that were assembled in the courtyard.
68
Only a little while later, while the feast was still in their minds and hearts, Jesus says the following:
69
John 8:12 Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
70
Can you even imagine?
74
How can we make the most of our dress rehearsal with the Lord?
75
May we never forget how He saved us and brought us out of Egypt.
76
May we never forget the ongoing process of how He takes Egypt out of us.
77
May we embrace the process of becoming His bride and not merely be excited about an invitation to the ceremony.
78
May we carefully learn they way He likes everything.
79
May we always stay ready for the return of our beloved.
80
I love this parable from the book of Matthew!
81
Matthew 25:1-13 Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went out to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were foolish, and five
82
Matthew 25:1-13 five were prudent. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps. Now while the bridegroom
83
Matthew 25:1-13 was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. But at midnight there was a shout, “Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.”
84
Matthew 25:1-13 Then all those virgins rose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the prudent, “Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.”
85
Matthew 25:1-13 But the prudent answered, saying, “No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.” And while they were going
86
Matthew 25:1-13 Away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. And later the other virgins
87
Matthew 25:1-13 also came, saying, “Lord, lord, open up for us.” But he answered and said, “Truly I say to you, I do not know you.” Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day
88
Matthew 25:1-13 nor the hour.
89
Are you ready?
90
Amen!
