Simple columnar Locations:
Nonciliated lines the inside of the digestive tract. Ciliated lines small bronchi and uterine tubes.
4
Simple columnar Functions: Absorption Secretes mucus and enzymes
Ciliated: Propels mucus/egg cells
7
Transitional Locations:
Lines urinary bladder and urinary tubes (ureter & urethra). Function: Able to stretch to accommodate urine.
10
Simple cuboidal Locations: Kidney tubules
Ducts and secretory parts of small glands Ovary surface
11
Simple cuboidal Functions: Secretion & absorption
14
Simple squamous Locations: Kidney glomerulus
Air sacs (alveoli) of lungs Lines heart, blood vessels and lymphatic vessels Ventral body cavity lining (serosa)
15
Simple squamous Functions: Diffusion Filtration Secretes serous fluid
18
Stratified squamous Location: Epidermis of the skin (dry, keratinized)
Moist linings of mouth and esophagus (nonkeratinized) Function: Protects underlying layers from abrasion.
21
Pseudostratified Locations:
Sperm tubes and ducts of large glands (nonciliated) Trachea and upper respiratory tract. Function: Secretion of mucus and movement of mucus if ciliated.
