Objectives: Obtain a history and perform a physical examination focusing on the musculoskeletal system Perform a screening musculoskeletal examination Perform a basic peripheral nerve exam for the upper and lower extremities Summarize and present a patient’s chief complaint in an ordered and succinct fashion

Objectives: Discuss diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal problems Discuss basic principles of surgical management of common musculoskeletal problems

Specific Objectives: By the end of this course, the students should be able to; 1- Acquire the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to manage musculoskeletal injuries and orthopedic diseases. 2- Practice essential management of orthopedic emergencies. 3- Acquire skills of musculoskeletal examination. 4- Interpret the radiological images of common traumatic and orthopedic conditions. 5- Acquire the skills of cast application and removal.

Cognitive Skills: 1. Develop problem solving skills. 2. Demonstrate self-learning skills. 3. Apply critical thinking and judgmental skills. 4. Plan appropriate investigations (laboratory test, radiology etc...).

Cognitive Skills: 5. Integrate the data obtained from the history, examination and investigations he/she collected into a meaningful diagnosis and construct appropriate management strategies. 6. Explain different treatment strategies provided for common orthopedic disorders in acute and non-acute sitting.

List of skills - Take a medical history from an orthopedic patient. - Examine the musculoskeletal system and the peripheral nerves. - Perform first aid measures in an emergency situation. - Apply bandage, casts, slabs and Thomas splints. - Manipulate different types of traction.
