Inbred Line Development and Hybrid Evaluation in GEM Breeding Crosses
James A. Hawk and Tecle Weldekidan Department of Plant and Soil Sciences University of Delaware
2
Objectives To develop inbred lines from GEM breeding crosses with good per se and testcross performance, resistance to abiotic and biotic factors, and adaptation to the Mid-Atlantic and Corn Belt regions Evaluate testcross performance of lines derived from DKXL212:N11a
6
Conclusions and Future Outlook
Based on yield results and per se evaluations, inbred lines DE4 and DKXL212:N11a may have potential for future line development. DE4 rated resistant for gray leaf spot and DE3 rated intermediate. The 162 Stiff Stalk and 188 non-Stiff Stalk S2’s will be testcrossed in winter isolation blocks, and hybrid evaluations will be conducted Summer 2003.
