Great Marsden St John's 'Pick and Mix' Homework
Year 5 - Autumn Term 2 This 'Pick and Mix' homework is for the whole half term. Red Boxes need to be completed regularly each week. Yellow Boxes must be done at some point during the half term. Challenge yourself to the green box activities. These do not have to be done, but if you want to push yourself, that would be super! Remember – your Learning Log must be returned to school each Wednesday. Reading You must read at least 3 times a week at home. Each time ask an adult to write a comment and sign your reading diary. Maths task Write a timetable for a typical day. Show what time each part of your day starts and ends and how long you spend doing the activity. Eg : Breakfast : 7.50am start, 8.10am finish : 20 minutes. The Empty Box! You can do anything you like; a presentation on something that interests you; write about something you have done - the choice is yours... Writing Task Write a prayer linked to remembrance and peace. Go on a walk with your family. How many signs of Autumn can you spot? How many different words can you find to use instead of nice. 10 – ok 15 – good 20 – excellent 25 – clever clogs! A Family Learning Activity Quiz time! How many words, with 3 letters or more, can you make out of Autumn leaves. See who can get the most. Spelling/Phonics Each Monday you will receive spellings to be learnt for a test on Friday. Talk about... Talk for 2 minutes about a planet in the Solar System. (No erms allowed!) Make a shadow puppet of an alien. Draw an alien with detailed labels to describe what it looks like (use adjectives, verbs, adverbs and similes.) Think of 10 questions you would ask Buzz Aldrin. (First man on the moon.) Numeracy Facts You must complete your Maths Targets at least 3 times a week at home. Each time ask an adult to write a comment and sign your Maths diary. Draw a diagram of the Solar System and label the planets in French! Choose a fruit or vegetable that grows in Autumn. Find different ways to cook and eat it. Which is your favourite dish? Please tick and initial the activities your child has completed.
