5 Tone and Mood Tone is the way the author is writing about a subject. It is the attitude the writer has towards a subject. Does he like or support the topic? Is he trying to undermine it? Etc. Mood is the way the work makes us feel. It is the emotions that the text makes us feel. Are we scared or nervous for the main character? Is it happy or joyful? Etc.
