3 What is Leadership? Different types, per Thomas Cronin and Michael Genovese Leadership is the process of capturing people’s attention, getting them to think about what is important Team member who helps the larger group crate and achieve mutual goals Involves diagnosing the collective situation, designing ways of dealing with it , and mobilizing support for a diagnosis and proposed solutions The capacity to shape organizations and mobilize and inspire members to achieve results It involves intentional action that allocates resources to achieve desired ends

Other considerations, per Thomas Cronin and Michael Genovese Leadership is a process Leadership involves a leader and followers Leadership is influence Leaders ignite a spark in others Followers willingly follow a legitimate leader and they generally validate a leader’s legitimacy Leadership is about attaining mutually desired goals for the group Effective leadership requires good judgement Good judgement requires rationality and empathy.

Male v Female Leadership considerations, per Sally Helgesen Men value hierarchy, women connect (often through a “web” of connections Hierarchy has a chain of command, information is filtered, gathered, and sorted The web facilitates direct communication, free flowing and loosely structured

Consider the following statements, think about whether you disagree with the following: Your intelligence is something very basic about you that you that you can’t change very much You can learn new things but you really can’t change how intelligent you are No matter how much intelligence you have, you can always change it quite a bit You can always substantially change how intelligent you are
