Doctrinal Purity 30+ New Testament appeals to doctrinal integrity “take note” “give attention” “count worthy of honor” 2Jo 1:9 Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him; 11 for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds. The Balance of Being a Church of Christ
The Lord’s church requires FULL COMMITMENT To the pursuit of doctrinal purity To the pursuit of drawing in weak members Mt 19:20 The young man said to Him, "All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?" 21 Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." 22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

22
Understanding the Balance Means:
We know that we have failed doctrine when: - We don’t worry about teachers/teaching “Only preaching to the lost matters” - We critique churches that want doctrinal purity “They are just ___________________” Churches that fail
23
Understanding the Balance Means:
We know that we have failed spiritual vitality: - We don’t want weak members “they are not welcome here” - We fear opportunities to teach “that could change things too much” Churches that fail
24
Understanding the Balance Means:
One cannot defeat the other Both are divine church purposes Churches are for weak members Churches are meant to create strong members Churches that fail
