Encoding and Storing Data
Encoding involves shortening data when inputting it into a computer system and has numerous benefits. Can you give me examples of coded data? Gender – M/F Teacher initials on school timetables – JB (Joe Bloggs) Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun

Advantages Data entry can be faster Data entry can be more accurate
Less storage space required Faster searching for data Coded data can be more secure if people don’t know what it means
