2. Evaluating Algebraically
Plug the given “x” value in place of EACH “x” in the function
For example if f(x) = x2 + 4x + 9 and asked for f(3)
f(x) = x2 + 4x + 9
f(3) = (3)2 + 4(3) + 9
f(3) =
f(3) = 30

3. Special Cases Evaluating variables. Example g(x) = x2 + 3x – 5
Find g(x + 2)
Being asked what x value is equal to a certain y value
Example f(x) = 3x – 7
If f(x) = 6, solve for x

4. Evaluating Graphically
Given a certain x value, find the y value (height) at that particular point.
Example:
Given graph for f(x), find f(1).
Find f(0)
Special Cases:
Given a y value, find the correct x value or values
Example f(x) = 2
Double values:
Find f(f.5)
