HELCOM HOLAS2 “State of the Baltic Sea”– Results and data publication schedule and technicalities Joni Kaitaranta HELCOM Secretariat

2 State of the Baltic Sea report
published in 7/2017 Consists of Thematic assessments and supplementary reports (Eutro, Bio, Haz.subst) Core indicators Assessment of cumulative impacts (impact index, pressure index, cumulative impacts on benthic hab.) Time period in assessment To be updated in 6/2018 with data for

3 Results are available Indicators (>30) are listed in Each core indicator consists links to: Metadata record on RESULT per assessment unit (polygon) Downloadable shapefile Link to map viewer E.g. Metadata record on DATA used for producing the result (typically points) E.g.

4 Metadata record: Result

5 Metadata record: Data

6 HELCOM data services currently
Metadata: HELCOM Metadata catalogue is based on Geonetwork implementation (ISO scheme, INSPIRE thesaurus, CSW) Tested metadata records pass INSPIRE validators: Older validator version passed New validator version passed when using ISO validator, but not ”metadata for interoperability” Network services: View service: OGC WMS Services available for all datasets (generated with AGS) Download service: Currently metadata record contains downloadable shapefile  Predefined ATOM feed? Data: Projection: ETRS89LAEA Stored in geodatabase ”Native format”: Shapefile (flat) Attributes depend on indicator and are not mapped to any INSPIRE Schema (SD, HD, SR, OF)

7 HELCOM data services currently – open issues
Assessment units / Reporting units: Should those be mapped to INSPIRE data specifications as Administrative units / Sea regions / Area management units? Cross-border areas Metadata of network services: Not implemented yet Download service: Currently attached to metadata record (not a service as such) Is ATOM feed actually needed? Is it part of Art19.3 compliance check? Data format/specification issues: The data format and attributes are made available as it has been defined by indicator leads and approved by Contracting Parties following decades of development in terms of methodology and standards. The data has not been mapped to Annex III themes and GML. We assume that providing metadata and network services is adequate to be used as reference in 2018 MSFD reporting

8 Challenges in mapping to INSPIRE
