Fraction Review Let’s see what you remember!
5
Let’s Reduce What does it mean to reduce a fraction? -To convert a fraction to it’s lowest possible equivalent Ex = 1 How did you do that? To reduce, you will divide both the numerator and denominator by the greatest common factor (number that fits into both) Ex ÷ = 1
6
What about Improper Fractions?
When the numerator is higher than the denominator Ex 4 What do I do? -In this case you divide the numerator by the denominator Ex 1 ¼
7
Doubling a Fraction How to double a fraction: Add the fraction to itself Ex Since the denominators are the same, you just add the numerators together Ex = 2 But what if….
8
The Denominators are Different?
If the denominators are different: You have to make the denominators the same How? You multiply the fractions to make the denominators the same Ex X = & X = 2 =
9
Cutting Fractions in half
How to cut a fraction in half: Multiply the fraction by ½ Ex X = 2 Don’t forget to reduce! Ex = 1 How did we get 1/3?
