2 What are the three levels of the FEDERAL court system?

3 THE VIRGINIA COURT SYSTEM
Virginia has its own court system. The Virginia Constitution establish its structure and jurisdiction (authority). In order to have your case tried in the Virginia Court System, you must either be involved in a civil case within your state or have broken a state law or ordinance. All Virginia State laws must agree with the Virginia Constitution and the U.S. Constitution Speeding, robbery, assault, burglary, shoplifting, murder, manslaughter, battery, and grand theft auto are examples of crimes that would be tried at the state level.

the Case Begins...". We will use this to fill out your notes page. For each court, we will identify... - if there are justices, judges or juries - type of jurisdiction and what cases they have power over

5 Quavious Keyate Marshall's first stop was at the Virginia Supreme Court. What did you learn there?

6 After realizing the Supreme Court of Virginia was not the right spot, Quavo decided not to go to the Virginia Court of Appeals. Why?

7 Quavo then went to the Loudoun County courthouse, but when he got inside, he was confused by the signs. Who was the woman who helped him? What did she do for the court system?

8 Quavo then went to the Loudoun County courthouse and was told the Juvenile and Domestic Court was not for him either. Why?

9 Quavo then went to the General District Court and once again, was turned away. Why?

10 Quavo finally ended up at the Loudoun County
Circuit Court where his case would ultimately be tried!! Besides the murder case, what else would be heard here?
