Folsom High School Class: Honors Chemistry Grade: 10-12
Description of Class: This is an honors level chemistry course that integrates the Next Generation Science Standards into its scope and sequence of study. Lab work is an integral part of the course. Honors Chemistry is different from General Chemistry in the breadth, depth and mathematical applications associated with the chemistry content. Strong reading comprehension and problem solving skills are a must! Students receive the additional grade point for Honors Chemistry. This course is recommended for students wishing to pursue a science major. Hours of Homework/Studying Per Week: approximately 3-5 hours but is variable depending on unit of study. Prerequisites: B or better in Biology and IM2, concurrent enrollment in IM3 Summer Assignments: None Frequency & Style of Assessments: Quizzes and Tests are given at various points through the curriculum and comprise 60% of a student’s grade. Written Work includes: problem solving work, note-taking and lab reports. Amount of Reading Required: Each unit has assigned reading from a college level textbook, and often, additional articles are provided to support the curriculum.
