What do all these ears have in common?
They are all shaped a bit like a cupped hand
You may have thought of lots of different ways they are similar. One thing they all have in common is their shape.

4. Try cupping your hand to make an animal ear shape.
Sometimes people put a cupped hand around their ear to help them hear better.
But does it work?
Perhaps would you hear better with a cardboard animal ear held up to your ear instead?
How could you find out which is better for hearing a quiet sound?

5. Discuss your ideas and plan a class investigation to find out which is better for hearing a quiet sound:
Your ear with a cupped hand behind it or
Your ear with a cardboard animal ear held up to it
Your bare ears or
Try to make sure it’s a fair test!
