3. In addition to being part of the campus community, you’re now part of the larger Lake Forest community. You have the opportunity to set goals for how you’ll engage on campus and off and to clarify who you are as a person in these new environments.

4. The Forester Five used as foundation for out of classroom experience and to guide our community.
They are the goals we have for our students and how they’ll engage on campus. You’ll hear about them a lot while you’re here.
They overlap and intersect. They’re guidelines for how we want students to participate on campus and what we hope they’ll learn during their time here.

5. Think w/ purposes is the Forester Five most closely connected with the College’s definition of community standards and the process for holding students accountable for those community standards. We want to students to learn to think, to make decisions that align with their values and represent their character.

6. Students will learn to think for themselves in careful and creative ways, taking responsibility for their thought processes and the outcome of decisions related to their thinking, as well as to think about the implications and outcomes of their actions within the immediate, societal, and global community.

7. The Student Handbook will be available online next week; an will be sent to everyone on campus from the Dean of Students when it’s available.
Students are responsible for knowing the polices and procedures in the handbook. Don’t rely on friends to tell you the policies. And “I didn’t know” isn’t a valid reason for violating a community standard or policy.

This is the big one and the one most commonly an issue for first year students.

10. If you violate a policy…
If it’s believed someone violated a policy, they’re asked to attend an administrative conference. That meeting is a conversation with a staff member about the incident, and allows the student to share their version of the incident and take responsibility for some or all of the community standards that may have been violated.

12. Emergency Amnesty
Students who are aware of a medical or other emergency are obligated to call for help, even when the emergency may be linked to prohibited activities.
When reporting a situation in which emergency medical help may be required when someone is severely intoxicated or is injured as a result of illegal or prohibited activities, students run no risk of penalty from the College for themselves or other students involved when they call for help.
