Citizens flourish because of rivers carrying out plentiful amounts of food
Mountains= hard to farm on 

3. Climate around the Mountains
Interior valleys 
Climate                     Along Pacific Coast
Drier than the coast BECAUSE mountains prevent moist air from blowing inland. 
Summer= very warm
Winter= cold, lots and lots of snow 
Winter= rainy, temperatures above freezing 
Summer= warm, less rain, helped by mild wet climate
