1 SUCH A DISASTER HOT SPOT?
The Philippines is considered to be ONE OF THE MOST DISASTER- PRONE COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD! ( A report in 2015 found that of the 10 MOST ‘AT RISK CITIES’ from natural hazards in the world, 8 of them were in the Philippines alone!!)

2 1.The Philippines sits on a destructive(convergent) plate boundary so it faces SIGNIFICANT RISK FROM TECTONIC HAZARDS…

3 2.Its north and eastern coasts face the Pacific Ocean ( the world’s most tsunami prone ocean)

4 3.The Philippines lies within S.E. Asia’s major typhoon belts.

5 In most years it is affected by 15 typhoons and is actually struck by between 6-9. These events bring strong winds, heavy rainfall and increase risk of landslides and flooding.

6 4.The Philippines has a tropical Monsoon climate so is subject to heavy rains…….

7 5. The Philippines has 47 volcanoes. ( 22 of which are active)
