Year 9 Science Curriculum
KS3 consolidation Learning journeys Transition assessment AQA GCSE transition scheme of work: Biomimicry Autumn Term GCSE content Topic 1 Biology, Chemistry and Physics Half termly assessments Spring Term GCSE content continued Summer Term All year 9 students have 1 Chemistry, 1 Biology and 1 Physics lesson per week All classes are taught the same content for the whole of year 9 All classes are mixed ability as per Teddington School policy.

AQA GCSE Science: two routes
Combined Science (Trilogy – spec code 8464) 2 GCSEs Students study Chemistry, Biology and Physics No coursework. ISAs replaced by “required practicals”, not assessed. 6 exam papers, 1.25 hours each Physics, Chemistry, Biology (spec codes 8463, 8462, 8461) 3 separate GCSEs Students study all the Combined Science content plus higher level content. No coursework. 6 exam papers, 1.75 hours each Students must have achieved min level in both Science and Maths to choose this route as an Option

All these results were above the UK national averages
2018 Results - highlights 100% of our students passed their GCSEs in Biology and Chemistry; 97% in Physics >50% of students taking each of the separate science GCSEs achieved a grade 7 or above 55% of students taking Combined Science achieved grade 4 or above 10% of students taking Combined Science achieved a grade 7 or above All these results were above the UK national averages Grade 4 or above for pass

How you can help your child
Make sure they have the equipment they need in school every day: their Science book (10p to replace lost books); scientific calculator (Casio fx-85GT Plus); 30cm transparent ruler, protractor, pencils, rubber and pens Check they are completing their homework (practicing key concepts) Ensure they are accessing the online revision resources on Doddle regularly to test themselves
