Do you have the same culture as someone who lives in another province of Canada?
Or as someone who lives in another part of the world?
What do you think is the most significant way that culture is expressed in your class?

3. Culture Complexes Can…
Reveal a lot about our lives.
Give ideas about ones own culture.
Some patterns of behavior are similar in some places but not similar in other places.
EG. Playing music are practiced in many parts of the world.
Eg. Catching Caplin is not something that is common in other countries.
Why do you think catching caplin is not a common practice in other countries?

4. Describing Culture

Cultural regions are locations on a map where particular culture complexes exist.
There are three basic categories of cultural regions:
1) Local Culture
2) Regional Culture
3) Popular Culture

5. Cultural Regions
1) Local Culture:
Expressions of a culture that are not widely practiced. Eg: Cooking Jigs Dinner Eg. Eating turkey in Africa is not common.

6. Cultural Regions
2) Regional Culture:
Expressions of a culture that are practiced over a large geographic area. (Eg. In Canada)

7. Cultural Regions
3) Popular Culture:
A culture complex that is widely accepted and practiced by people around the world. (ex: All over the World)

11. Describing Culture In Time
With increased globalization, culture regions are less confined by national borders or other human-made divisions.
Describing a cultural trail with reference to a timeframe.
There are two basic ways to describe culture temporally(In Time):
1) Traditional Culture
2) Contemporary Culture

Cultural traits that have been passed down to us from our ancestors.
2) Contemporary Culture
Cultural traits/characteristics that originate in modern times (Ie. In the last 2 years).
