Pascal’s and Bernoulli’s Principles
Pascal’s and Bernoulli’s Principles
2
Pascal’s Principle When a force is applied to a confined fluid, the change in pressure is transmitted equally to all parts of the fluid. Ex. Squeezing a tube of toothpaste.
3
Hydraulics Hydraulic systems are based on Pascal’s principle.
Squeezing liquid in one area creates a pressure in another area. EX. Car brakes
4
Bernoulli’s Principle
As the speed of a moving fluid increases, its pressure decreases. This is how airplanes fly.
6
Uses of Bernoulli’s Principle
Smoke rises in the chimney as air blows across the top of the chimney creating low pressure Frisbee’s can fly
