What Is a business? What is your favorite business? Why do companies exist? What kind of Economic System do we have in US? Market Economy, Capitalistic ENGAGE/EXTEND: Play the game of Monopoly to learn business principals: risk, investment, profit, etc.

Everything I know about Business, I learned from Monopoly…

Free Market Economy Its the competition that comes from allowing anyone who wants to sell a particular service or item to do so. So if three people want to sell flowers, there is a competition between them to earn your business

Capitalism In capitalism, the most successful business people are the ones who create the greatest amount of profit for the least amount of expense. Competition forces companies to keep prices low in order to attract and keep consumers. The term "capitalist" was originated by social theorist Karl Marx to describe a system wherein a small group of people control large amounts of money and make the most important economic decisions. Marx believed that a capitalist system concentrates power in the hands of wealthy people, who want mainly to maximize their profits.

What is a Monopoly? A monopoly is an enterprise that is the only seller of a good or service. In the absence of government intervention, a monopoly is free to set any price it chooses and will usually set the price that yields the largest possible profit.

Monopoly Board Game A board game in which players engage in simulated property and financial dealings using imitation money. It was invented in the US and the name was coined by Charles Darrow circa 1935. Monopoly Video Smithsonian CBS profile monopoly
