Density
2
How do we calculate Density?
Density – The measure of how much mass is contained in a given volume. Density = Mass Volume
3
Density of Water Water has a Density of 1.0 g/ml
If an object SINKS in water, then it is more dense than water. If an object FLOATS in water, then it is less dense than water.
4
Sink or Float? Decide if the objects will SINK OR FLOAT given their density.
5
Mystery Cube Density can be used to identify a substance.
A mystery cube has a mass of 58 grams and a volume of 8 cubic cm. What is the density?
6
Mystery Cube The density of the cube is 7.25 g/cm.
Use the chart below to identify the substance. Metal Density Bronze 8.75 g/cm Tin 7.25 g/cm Vanadium 6.0 g/cm Palladium 12.0 g/cm Brass 8.5 g/cm

Density Practice Problems
Get with a partner or work on your own to complete the density practice problems. You should NOT need a calculator! Be sure to answer ALL parts of the question.
