2 Social networking Purpose:
Use the web to communicate and share info among friends and others Also can be used for business purposes Used to hire, market and product development The purpose of Social Networking is to use the web to communicate and share information among friends and others. It can also be used for business purposes. For example, businesses use it for hiring, marketing, and product development. Megan Jansen

3 Social networking Be careful about posting online Some examples:
Information can get spread around and could interfere with potential future employment opportunities Social Networking can make communication easier but it can also cause irreversible effects on one’s life good or bad Some examples: Facebook, twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, linked in (for business purposes) When posting online it is important to be cautious because information can get spread around and could potentially interfere with future employment opportunities. Social Networking can make communication easier but it can also cause irreversible effects on one’s life good or bad. Some examples of social Networks are shown to the left. Megan Jansen

4 A network of networks that connect billions of users around the world
What is the “Internet?” The internet is made up of networks that connect billions of users around the world. Megan Jansen

5 Creation of the Internet
The Internet was created in the late 1900s during the Cold war Purpose: To create a secure form of communication in the event of an attack Researchers for the DoD were trying to get different computers to communicate with each other using a common method that all computers would be able to use The Internet was created in the late 1900s during the Cold War. The Department of Defense wanted to create a secure from of communication in the event of an attack. So, researchers were trying to get different co putters to communicate using a common network that all computers would be able to use in order to solve these problems. Megan Jansen

6 Due to the fact that computers are based on networks they communicate in turns
Client: Asks for data from the server Server: Receives the request from the client and sends the data back Communication Due to the fact that computers are based on networks they communicate in turns. One is the client, which asks for the information, and the other is the server, which receives the request and sends the information back. Megan Jansen

7 Transmission Lines Computers communicate through transmission lines
Comparable to the highway; just like different roads have different speeds The fastest transmission line is called the Internet Backbone Transmission Lines Computers communicate through transmission lines, comparable to the highway; just like different roads have different speeds transmission lines operate at different standards as well. The fastest transmission line is called the Internet Backbone. Megan Jansen

8 Web Protocol The web is based on a protocol by Tim Berners-Lee
He wanted to a method of linking his research documents so others could look at them Robert Cailliau worked in developing the protocol with Berners-Lee Web Protocol The fist web protocol was developed by Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau. While, they worked on it together, Berners-Lee was the one who came up with the idea because he wanted a method of linking his research documents so others would be able to access them too. Megan Jansen

9 The internet was invented by a us government-funded project called the advanced research projects agency network The internet was invented by a us government-funded project called the Advanced Research Project Agency Network. Otherwise known as the ARPANET Megan Jansen

10 The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network
Managed the first communication in 1969 This communication was between a computer at Stanford and one at UCLA Many people were apart of this project but Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn are known as the fathers of the Internet The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network managed the first communication in This communication was between a computer at Stanford and one at UCLA.
