Cheeks’ Chatter October 15-19, 2018 Learning Focuses This Week Spelling Words Homework ( Mon. & Tues.only) Theme: Life cycle of pumpkins, characteristics of pumpkins Shared Reading: It’s Pumpkin Time Writing: Small Moment Narratives – adding details and editing our stories Reading Skills: Review all short vowels and introduce long vowels in words that have a CVCe patterns, using a “silent e.” Reading Strategy – Think about both long and short vowel sounds to decode tricky words by using the “flip the sound” strategy flexibly (if one vowel sound doesn’t work, try the other one. Language Skills: Introduce verbs-action words. Review all nouns. Math Skills: We will begin subtraction as it relates to addition with number bonds. Read Aloud: Charlotte’s Web We are working on making long vowels by adding a “silent e”. mad made fin fine rob robe cub cube ate white TEST - FRIDAY * Math Review * Study Spelling words nightly * Read your Reading Folder book Check the front and back of all pages. Reminders Make sure to label all jackets and sweaters that come to school. There is no “Lost and Found” at MCE. Lost jackets will be returned to their owners when they are found--if there is a name. Also be sure to send any money coming to school in an envelope or ziplock bag with your child’s name and the money’s purpose. Lunch money can suddenly become Fun Friday money in your first grader’s mind if it is not labeled. Please see the note included in your child’s folder regarding our First Grade Funtober Day. We are so excited to share these fun fall activities with our first graders and their parents. We have a jam-packed schedule full of fun and learning. Please plan to spend the morning with your child on Thursday, October 18th! Don’t forget to fill out any conference request notes that your child’s teacher has sent home. We want to touch base with all parents to discuss your child’s progress and clear up any confusion about our non-graded report card.
