ICE Paragraphs
2
What is an ICE paragraph?
ICE paragraphs contain evidence that supports main ideas that appear in topic sentences, and responsible writers make sure to introduce, cite, and explain quotes used as evidence.
4
I Introduce your topic to the audience. Examples:
In Ray Bradbury’s The Veldt, the author proposes that children raised with no parental supervision will ignore attempts at discipline. In Richard Connell’s The Most Dangerous Game, the author discusses the fine line between savagery and civility.
5
Cite evidence from the source.
Examples: Throughout the story, Bradbury highlights moments where Peter and Wendy disobey their parents, regarding the nursery, as well as their behavior. While Rainsford is hunted by Zaroff, he finds himself slipping more and more into a savage state.
6
Explain how your evidence supports your answer.
Examples: Peter and Wendy’s defiant behavior makes their parents, George and Lydia powerless to help their children and the parents become victims to the lions in the veldt simulation. In the end, Rainsford takes Zaroff’s life and assumes control ov Ship-Trap Island, basically becoming as ruthless as Zaroff.
