2 PROTEINS Proteins are biochemicals that are made of much smaller molecules called amino acids. Most proteins are made from very long chains of amino acids.

3 THEIR JOB Proteins are needed to build and repair body structures.
They also regulate body processes such as your metabolism.

4 MORE COMPLEX Proteins are more complex than carbohydrates and lipids.
There are 20 different amino acids that can combine to make proteins.

5 EXAMPLES OF PROTEINS Protein is found spider webs and hair.
Beans and nuts have large amounts of protein in them.

6 HEMOGLOBIN An especially important protein, called hemoglobin, is found in red blood cells. It helps carry oxygen to all the cells of the body. It is the iron in the hemoglobin that allows oxygen to bind to the blood so that it can be carried to the rest of the body.
