2 Warm Up What does health mean to you and your future?
Think about what you want to accomplish in life, and the role that good health will play in helping you achieve your goals.

4 Health Health – the combination of physical, mental/emotional, and social well-being.

6 Physical Health Physical Health – how well your body functions.
Having a high level of physical health means having enough energy to perform your daily activities, deal with everyday stresses and avoid injury.

7 List five important actions you can take to get and keep a healthy body?

8-10 hours of sleep each night. Eat nutritious meals and drink eight cups of water each day. Engage in 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity every day. Avoid the use of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs. Bathe daily, floss, and brush your teeth every day.

9 Mental/Emotional Health
Your feeling and thoughts. It’s a reflection of how you feel about yourself, how you meet the demands of your daily life, and how you cope with the problems that occur in your life.

10 Social Health Getting along with others.
Social network includes your family, friends, teachers, and other members in your community.

11 Wellness An overall state of well being or total health.
Wellness comes from making decisions and practicing behaviors that are based on sound health knowledge and healthful attitudes.

13 Exit Slip On a separate sheet of paper, answer the following questions. Define health in your own words and what are the components that make it up? List important steps you can take to promote your physical health. What is the health continuum? Describe the continuum’s endpoints. How can poor mental/emotional health affect physical health? How might your behaviors today affect your health now? How might they affect your health in the future?
