What is the difference between adapting and modifying??
To ADAPT is to change something about your needs to fit your surroundings
To MODIFY is to change something about your surroundings to fit your needs

4. ADAPTATION and modification
Like all animals, people must adapt to or modify their environment. That includes the bodies of water, landforms, climate, plants, and animals they find in the place they live.

People have to adapt to their environment because they may not have a choice in where they live.
