The Confederacy didn’t fight for States’ Rights
In the 1850s, pro-South politicians controlled both Congress and the presidency. They violated the states’ rights of the North in the following ways:
The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850: Northern states were forced to use their resources to capture escaped slaves, and if anyone helped an escaped slave with so little as a cup of water, he or she would go to prison.
The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1856: Violated the Missouri Compromise of 1820 (which had prohibited slavery above the parallel) by allowing slavery in Kansas and Nebraska.
The Dred Scott Decision of 1857: Permitted slave owners to continue to own their slaves when moving to non-slavery states, thus effectively making slavery legal in every state.
The Confederates revolted when a man got elected president (Lincoln) who sought to reverse the tyranny
the South had already imposed.
Confederates fought against States’ Rights, not for them!
