Community Engagement Objectives
Identify the perceived strengths and challenges of the Amelia County Schools. Identify and describe the desired qualities and characteristics the next Superintendent should possess and demonstrate. Build community understanding and support for the search process.

Amelia County Superintendent Search Community Engagement Meetings “Record qualities and characteristics of next Superintendent” BWP Associates met with board members, employees and community members on October , 2018. Interviews involved 15 meetings with Board members, employees, students, parents, appointed and elected officials, and community leaders. A total of 144 people participated in engagement meetings and 445 have responded to the online survey.

Three most significant strengths of ACPS Schools: 1. Supportive Community – 52% 2. Excellent teachers and staff – 45% 3. Educational options and programs – 36% Three most important skills you would like to see in a superintendent: 1. Communication skills -75% 2. Financial skills – 70% 3. Organizational/management skills – 49% Three important characteristics you would like a superintendent to exhibit: 1. Good judgment – 57% 2. Commitment to the community – 50% 3. Team builder – 38% Experience desired: 1. Experience in strategic planning -97% 2. Experience in finance – 95% 3. Experience as a superintendent with a proven record of success; instruction and personnel – 93% Three most important issues/concerns facing ACPS in next 5 years 1. Funding – 75% 2. Educational options and programs – 43% 3. Growth – 42%

A student centered communicator with demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and trust with staff, students, parents and community. A leader who maintains transparency in all matters.

Specifications: Completed: Board Approves Profile – November 12* Report includes Preliminary On-line survey results – (November 10) Recruitment/Assessment: December 10*** deadline BWP receives/reviews applications BWP screens applicants/completes reference checks BWP prepares slate of candidates/present recommendations January Selection: Board selects and schedules interviews with candidates - Board conducts 1st round of interviews Board selects and interviews finalist(s) Board selects new superintendent/negotiates contract Board Introduces new superintendent to community February/March Superintendent begins on or before July 1, 2019
