Meiosis By Nolan, Mackenzie, Megan and Caed
2
Prophase I Some of the key points of this stage are when the nucleolus disappears The spindle fibers will form and homologous chromosomes will pair up The chromosomes will attach to spindle fibers
3
Metaphase I - During metaphase I, the chromosomes line up in pairs of 2 - The switch of genes and DNA between the 2 pairs of chromosomes is now complete.
4
Anaphase I The spindle fibers contract and shorten
Homologous chromosomes attached to the centromeres separate and are pulled to opposite poles by the spindle fibers
5
Telophase I The chromosomes will separate to the different sides of the cell Also the chromones will return into their non condensed forms In the cell, the nuclear membrane is reformed Sometimes the division of the cytoplasm will happen, making the two haploid daughter cells form
6
Interkinesis During interkinesis the parent cell splits for the first time, leaving 2 cells with genetically different DNA Unlike mitosis, the chromatids do not separate during the first split. But later on in the second split, the chromatids do split.
7
Prophase II Similar to the prophase in Mitosis
The nuclear envelope will disappear as the chromosomes start to condense Centrosomes will separate from each other as the spindle fibers try to catch on to the chromosomes
8
Metaphase II This is the stage will the chromosomes will align in the center of the cell The chromosomes align because of the attachment of the spindle fibers to the centromeres of chromosomes In this type of Metaphase there is segregation, this is the difference between the two types of Metaphase
9
Anaphase II The spindle fibers contract and shorten
The centromeres pulled apart and separate Both of the two chromatids of each chromosomes move to opposite poles of the cell
10
Telophase II The nuclear envelope will form around each of the sets of chromosomes In this stage there can be crossing- over between some of the chromosomes
11
Cytokinesis The cells will divides in two
Also the cells will grow and make proteins like in interphase in mitosis
