Wrote literature review and beginning to develop research proposal
Alison Mullen Newcastle University Lay summary Decisions about gastrostomy feeding in adults with learning disabilities (LD) who lack capacity to consent are often challenging and emotive. Research with other client groups indicates the meaning of oral vs gastrostomy feeding for families is complex, but this has not been explored with adults with LD. Question/Rationale Identifying gaps in research concerning decision making for gastrostomy in adults with learning disabilities (LD). What did you do? Wrote literature review and beginning to develop research proposal Read and critically reviewed articles Searched for articles Picture 2 Picture 3 What did you find out? Very little research has been conducted which has explored gastrostomy outcomes and decision making in adults with learning disabilities. Next steps: Further development of research proposal for HEE/NIHR CDF application in based on shared decision making Implications: Effective gastrostomy shared decision cannot occur without better understanding of factors important to clients and families
